Dr Hugo Benito from CERAM fertility clinic in Marbella is answering some of our questions.
CERAM is the first Fertility Clinic established in Marbella since 1993. During these 21 years we have accumulated a lot of experience, not only in the scientific field but with regards to patient treatment and counseling. Our philosophy is give the warmest consultation, try to understand their problems and offer the best treatment to ensure a success procedure
What do you think has been CERAM's biggest achievement to date?
Our biggest achievement in CERAM is to constantly improve our success rates in all the fertility programs, today well above Spanish national average. Each couple is studied with care in order to be able to fulfill our patient’s dreams. Comments of gratitude from patients all over the world are CERAM’s reason for improvement.
What kind of support is available to people travelling from abroad for treatment?
CERAM has a growing international team treating patients from all over the world. The team has proven years of experience to provide the best counselling to each individual case.
During the treatment, the team is in permanent contact by telephone, skype or email with the couple. This will ensure that all doubts are promptly solved and stress is avoided. Fiona and her team will be able to provide you with necessary counseling in English, Spanish, Italian, Russian and German.
Spanish legislation is different to other countries in terms of egg donation. It is a legal procedure, confidential and the donor is totally anonymous.
Marbella is a great place to find that relaxing holiday atmosphere. The way of life found in Marbella creates a feeling of well-being and rest that is well appreciated by couples coming to CERAM for treatment.

• Total confidentiality, individualized treatment with no waiting lists.
• Donors are anonymous and less than 30 years.
• Success pregnancy rates higher than national average.

• Hotels pre-booking offered by CERAM.
Which technique in recent years, in your opinion, has had the most significant impact on success rates?
The technique that has revolutionized the fertility treatments is Egg Donation. In the past we spend a lot of time trying to stimulate patients with a low or very low answer and therefore with poor results. Today we can do a diagnosis of premature ovarian failure pretty soon and if needed, start an Egg donation program. Of course, in each case in which the Egg donation is the treatment recommended we take the time to carefully explain the program so that the patient understands why this is the optimum treatment.
Can you tell us a little about your egg donation program- where do you recruit donors from, how are they screened, how do you monitor for egg quality?
Our Egg Donation program started in Ceram 10 years ago. We have been studying and improving this treatment in order to achieve high success rates (70% average pregnancy rate). The high success rates lie behind a minimum of 6 fresh eggs to the recipient.
Our donors are young girls between 18 and 30 years old, from many nationalities given that Marbella is a cosmopolitan city. We have a strict selection program according to the Spanish law we do all the analytical requirements, including genetics studies. If the recipients ask for specific screening we will incorporate it as part of the selection program.
In order to guarantee a good quality of the eggs we do a careful stimulation monitoring with ultrasound daily and measurement of the level of oestradiol.
Marbella is a beautiful city to visit, what can it offer to patients travelling abroad for treatment?
