The IREMA clinic is located halfway between Valencia and Alicante in Southern Spain. It was established in 2005 and is a private clinic. In 2015, 272 treatment cycles were carried out at IREMA of which 52% were egg donation cycles.
The fertility clinic, whilst located in its own building, is part of a medical complex. This has the advantage that other specialisms can be used if required. There are two laboratories, one theatre and six single recovery rooms which are ensuite.
The Medical Director of IREMA is Dr. Maria Daniela Cummins. She obtained her gynaecologist/obstetrician license in 2005 and has worked in different clinics in Argentina, specifically in the Cegyr Fertility clinic in Buenos Aires. In 2007-2008 she got her degree in Human Reproduction at SAMeR (Argentina). In 2009-2010, she obtained a Master´s degree in Human Reproduction at the University Rey Juan Carlos- IVI in Spain. She contributes to conferences and seminars and is doing a Master’s degree in Endoscopy. They have a staff of 3 doctors, all of whom speak English fluently. There are two senior embryologists and one junior. The lab manager has over 15 years’ experience and is ESHRE accredited. Besides the doctors and embryologists who speak English, there is an international team that speaks Spanish, English, Italian, French, Dutch, German, Swedish and Finnish. They provide coordination and support for patients travelling from abroad.

For egg donation the clinical pregnancy rate is good at 70.4%.
For IVF/ICSI using own eggs, the clinical pregnancy rate is between 36-53% depending on the age of the woman.
For embryo donation, the clinical pregnancy rate is 42%.
For frozen embryo transfer, the clinical pregnancy rate is 42%.
They submit their results to the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF) for verification.
The day of embryo transfer is dependent on the specifics of individual cases – age of patient and quality of the embryos for example.
In 2015, the multiple birth rate was 20.2%. An average of 1.7 embryos was transferred.
Cost of Treatments
The advertised price of egg donation treatment is 7290 Euros. This includes drugs for the donor and donor stimulation, donor compensation, ICSI and day 3 embryo transfer. Ultrasounds and a blood pregnancy test are also included if done at the clinic.
Culture to the blastocyst stage costs 325 Euros if required. Embryo monitoring using the Embryoscope costs 300 Euros. Sperm freezing costs 150 Euros. Vitrification is not included and costs 500 Euros but includes 2 years of storage. The initial consultation fee is 135 Euros.
They operate a 1 donor : 1 recipient policy for egg donation so egg sharing is not offered.
IVF treatment is advertised as costing 4150 Euros. This includes drugs and stimulation, egg collection, ICSI and day 3 embryo transfer. Ultrasounds and a blood pregnancy test are included if they are done at the clinic.
Of the patients who attend IREMA, 40% are Spanish, 15% are French, 15% are from the UK, 10% are Dutch, 5% are German, 5% are Italian, and the rest are from elsewhere in the world.

IREMA clinic is located halfway between Valencia and Alicante, 2 km from highway exit 62 of the AP-7 motorway, and 6 kilometres from Denia. Patients coming from abroad can fly to Valencia or Alicante airport. Complimentary pick up and return to the airport is included. The clinic can also help with the booking of accommodation.
