Fertinova is located in Helsinki in Finland. It is a sister clinic to Ovumia Clinic in Tampere and to Nova Vita in Estonia. It is private clinic and was opened in 1993 under the name AVA clinic. In 2017, it undertook 799 fertility treatment cycles of which 32% were egg donation cycles. The clinic is located on the 5th floor of a building and is modern with a separate embryology and andrology laboratory. It has one theatre and one recovery room accommodating four beds.
The Medical Director is Dr Eija Dorbek who has been in this position since 2014. She specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and from 2006-2013 she was working in Kokkola Central Hospital as the lead consultant for infertility. She speaks Finnish, English, Estonian and Russian. There are three other doctors and four embryologists. The senior embryologist has 10 years’ experience and is ESHRE accredited. There is an international coordinator for foreign patients. All staff speak English fluently.
Finland has a slightly different law on anonymity of egg and sperm donors. During the selection of the donor, only non-identifying information is revealed. However, any child born as a result of egg or sperm donation in Finland is entitled to know their donors identity at 18 years of age. This is because all egg and sperm donors must register in a central database. It is also possible to bring a known donor such as a sister or friend to donate eggs.
