GMG – The Institute of Life (Io Life) was established in 2016 within IASO Maternity Hospital, a leading maternity and gynecology hospital in Greece and one of the largest and most advanced assisted reproduction units in Europe. Operating within a major hospital, the Assisted Reproduction Unit, the Institute of Life, guarantees medical safety for patients as it provides direct and fast access to a broad variety of medical services.
GMG – Io Life is located in Marousi, a suburb in the northeastern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. Marousi is a popular tourist destination and it dates back to ancient times. The clinic is based in a modern building and has a cutting-edge and pleasant design interior that makes you feel right at home.
Institute of Life performed 6,500 treatment cycles in 2021, of which 4,500 were IVF with own eggs cycles and 1,000 were egg donation cycles. The clinic has one IVF laboratory and three operating theatres. There are four comfortable recovery rooms for patients. The clinic holds Temos Certification which is the only medical services certification system in the world that focuses on the management of international patients and medical tourism. Specifically, they have Euro Mediterranean Insitute & Temos Hellas Certification of clinical results and success rates by the EuroMediterranean Institute for Quality and Safety in Health Services and by Temos Hellas, ISO 90001-2015 and EN 15224-2017 Certification for quality management systems, exclusively for the provision of healthcare services.
The clinic uses RI Witness management system that tracks and records patient samples (oocytes, sperm, blood samples, etc.) at each step of the treatment process. The system acts as a safeguard that helps you maintain peace of mind from day one that your samples are safe and will not be mistaken for somebody else’s.

The mitochondrial replacement technique (MRT) is designed to prevent the transmission of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) diseases from mother to child. The spindle transfer (ST) technique is based on the transfer of the nuclear genome from the egg of an affected woman (the recipient) into an egg from a healthy donor that has had its own nuclear genome removed. The use of this technology may represent a powerful technology to prevent the transmission of mitochondrial diseases from affected women into their offspring and, also, treat infertility caused by defects in oocytes that are on the cytoplasmic level.

Genetic Testing at GMG – Io Life
If there is a suspicion that your embryos may turn out to be aneuploid, there is a need to test your embryos genetically. This will cost you EUR 500 for a PGT-A per embryo. Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A) also known as PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening) is a procedure that helps determine the chromosomal makeup of your embryos. All 23 pairs of human chromosomes will be screened during this test. The results of PGT-A help the embryologist choose the best embryos that will be transferred to your uterus. The embryos with the correct number of chromosomes will be able to implant and develop into healthy babies.
GMG – Io Life also offers Embryo Ranking Intelligent Classification Algorithm (ERICA) which is deep learning AI software designed to help embryologists in the embryo selection process prior to embryo transfer. This comes at a cost of only EUR 250. This AI-based software relies on artificial vision to discover embryo features that are not identifiable via a conventional microscope. ERICA can accurately define embryos as euploidy and rank them according to their implantation potential. This is yet another way to select the embryo(s) with the best chance to become a healthy baby.
Another, genetic test that is available for GMG – Io Life patients is EMBRACE: Embryo Analysis of Culture Environment. This non-invasive test pinpoints the embryos that are most likely to be euploid (23 pairs of chromosomes) and avoids the need for invasive embryo biopsies. The cost at GMG – Io Life is EUR 400.
