Behind IVF Clinic Doors: My Visit to Reproclinic, Barcelona, Spain

Reproclinic has existed since 2018. That’s not very long. And yet here we are talking about it, and so is the European Fertility Society, which awarded it Best Holistic Clinic of 2025. When a clinic this young earns that kind of recognition, you pay attention.

About the clinic

Founded in Barcelona in 2018, Reproclinic has built its identity around a belief that fertility care is not just a medical journey. It’s a physical, emotional, and personal one. The clinic offers the full spectrum of reproductive treatments, but what sets it apart is what sits alongside them: psychology, nutrition, acupuncture, reflexology, and stress management, woven into the experience from the start. It’s not an add-on. It’s the philosophy.

The clinic is accredited by the Health Department of the Generalitat of Catalunya and operates three laboratories on site: IVF, andrology, and cryobiology, with an operating theatre as well.

Arrival at the clinic

Reproclinic is based in Sant Antoni, one of Barcelona’s most vibrant and lived-in neighbourhoods. It’s busy, sunny, full of life, the kind of area where the city feels real rather than polished.

Inside, the contrast is immediate. The space is new and modern, but sober and calm, not trying to dazzle, just quietly confident. There’s a circular waiting area that feels open without feeling exposed. It’s a small detail, but it shapes the energy of the whole space.

Consultations

My first meeting was with patient coordinator Geovanni Fuentes, and I want to talk about him for a moment, because he is one of those people whose energy you carry with you.

He walked me through everything with patience and complete presence, never making me feel like any question was too small. And he was smiling the whole time. Not a polite smile, but a real one, the kind that tells you someone genuinely loves what they do. He is also, remarkably, studying biotechnology while working full time at the clinic. That curiosity, that investment in understanding the science behind the work, you can feel it in how he talks about it. That kind of positive energy is not nothing. It goes with you.

My medical consultation was with Dr Alicia Saborit, Medical Director of Reproclinic. She is a senior specialist in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Reproductive Medicine, and her approach is direct and clear: the best outcomes start with a well-informed patient. No one-size-fits-all. No assumptions. Every treatment plan is built around the unique biological and emotional needs of the person sitting across from her.

That shared decision-making, the feeling that you are part of the process, not just the subject of it, was present throughout.

Then I met Rosana, the clinic’s acupuncturist. And this is where Reproclinic starts to feel like something genuinely different. Because alongside all the clinical expertise, this clinic has a psychologist, a nutritionist, a reflexologist, and an acupuncturist. All of it available as part of your journey. The idea is that the body, the mind, and the emotional self all play a role in fertility, and that caring for all three gives you the best possible foundation. I had the chance to try a little acupuncture myself. It’s needles, yes, but you can barely feel them. And afterwards, there’s a stillness that’s hard to describe. I called Reproclinic a body, mind and soul clinic. I stand by that.

Lab

The lab visit was extraordinary, and a lot of that was because of the person leading it. Aina Canyelles is an embryologist, andrologist, and genetic diagnosis specialist. Her LinkedIn banner reads: “from little things, big things grow.” And from the moment she started speaking, it was clear that this isn’t just a job for her. The way she describes the work, the precision, the care, the stakes, you can feel that she puts her whole self into it.

She told me something I will not forget. She talks to the eggs. Every time, before fertilisation, she speaks to them, quietly, sincerely, asking them to fertilise, to grow, to become life. And if she forgets? Even if she has already changed out of her uniform and is ready to leave, she goes back. Gets changed again. Goes back into the lab. And talks to those little eggs.

I don’t know how to explain why that moved me so much. But it did.

I also had the rare chance to watch an embryologist perform an ICSI, the process of injecting a single sperm directly into an egg. Seeing how precise, how delicate, how extraordinary that moment is, it’s not something you forget easily.

Final thoughts

Reproclinic is young. But it has already figured out something that takes many clinics decades to understand: that a person going through fertility treatment is not just a patient with a medical file. They are a whole human being, often carrying a great deal of hope and fear, and they deserve care that meets all of that.

The medical expertise is there. The science is serious. But it’s the warmth, the energy of every single person I met, the smile of the patient coordinator, the acupuncturist, the embryologist who talks to the eggs, that stays with you.

If you are looking for a clinic where the clinical and the human are genuinely, thoughtfully combined, where you will feel seen not just as a patient but as a person, Reproclinic is a clinic worth knowing about.
