UNICA clinic in Brno was established in 1991. It was the first European private clinic associated with the North American University assisted reproduction department, McGill University, since 2014. UNICA clinics are two modern clinics located in the two largest Czech cities – Prague and Brno. The clinic in Prague was opened in 2017. In 2018, more than 2,000 patients decided to have treatment at UNICA out of which 1,500 came from abroad. In 2020, the clinic performed 2,575 treatment cycles in which 45% (1,250) cycles were with donor eggs and 55% (1,325) were IVF cycles own eggs.

UNICA offers a wide range of assisted reproduction treatments using own oocytes (IVF) and donor eggs and sperm (egg donation and sperm donation), fertility preservation as well as genetic testing. Treatments are designed and planned only after a series of preliminary tests and medical consultation(s) (at the clinic or in your own country) are undertaken to address the patient’s needs and requirements. The clinic has 9 fertility doctors and 15 embryologists on board. The IVF lead physicians at UNICA are Dr Jan Lacheta (Unica Prague), with experience since 2009 and Dr Tomáš Koukal (Unica Brno) with experience since 2011.

Dr Jan Lacheta, UNICA Clinic in Prague

Dr Jan Lacheta is an experienced specialist in reproductive medicine, gynecology and obstetrics. He has worked in fertility care for more than a decade and supports patients throughout the IVF process, from initial assessment and diagnosis to treatment planning, ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval and embryo transfer.

His clinical interests include recurrent implantation failure, advanced maternal age and complex reproductive histories, including cases in which previous fertility treatments have not been successful. He focuses on identifying factors that may affect treatment outcomes and developing an individual treatment strategy based on each patient’s medical history, test results and personal circumstances.

Dr Lacheta graduated from the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague and completed his specialist qualification in gynecology and obstetrics in 2009. Before specialising in assisted reproduction, he gained extensive experience at the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Charles University and the General University Hospital in Prague.

Throughout his career, Dr Lacheta has contributed to fertility treatments that have helped more than 10,000 children come into the world. He is a member of the Czech Society for Assisted Reproduction and speaks fluent English, Czech, and Polish.

Dr Tomáš Koukal, UNICA Clinic in Brno

Dr Tomáš Koukal has a long-standing background in medicine (since 1994) with specialized expertise in reproductive health (since 2011). He communicates with patients in English, Czech, and also has a basic knowledge of Polish and German.

Unica Clinic employs experienced embryologists. In Prague – Lukáš Landsmann and, in Brno, – Sylvie Hlaváčová with experience since 1998 (engaged in assisted reproduction field since 1996), also ESHRE accredited.

What is more, Unica has an entire team of international coordinators with a wealth of experience. The coordinators speak fluent French, German, Italian, Polish, Serbian, Croatian, Russian and Czech. The entire staff speaks fluent English.

IVF Costs at Unica

At Unica, IUI (intrauterine insemination) is available for married couples at the cost of EUR 800 and AID (artificial insemination with donor) is available for coupes with a male factor infertility with an additional cost for a sperm donor (EUR 300), so in total insemination with donor sperm costs EUR 1,100.

The advertised cost of IVF treatment using own eggs is EUR 2,900. This includes:

• An ultrasound examination during the course of the stimulation
• Sperm analysis and sperm preparation for fertilisation
• Anesthesia and egg retrieval
• ICSI
• Extended embryo cultivation to 5 days
• Contrast catheter for the embryo transfer.

If you are looking for additional procedures, Time-Lapse costs EUR 600, PICSI EUR 300, sperm freezing + 2 years of storage is EUR 300 and freezing of non-transferred embryos + 2 years of storage costs EUR 400.

The cost of an initial consultation at the clinic is EUR 145 and it includes gynecological examination, preparation, and instructions of the treatment protocol, medication, etc. The cost of an initial consultation via phone or Skype is EUR 100 and it covers 30 minutes consultation to discuss medical history and prepare a treatment plan.

Unica Clinic Prague IVF Success Rates

In 2020, the overall IVF with own eggs clinical pregnancy success rates were 43.2% and per age:

• women under 35 – 53.6%
• women aged 35-40 – 39.4%
• women over 40 – 11.5%.

The IVF with donor eggs clinical pregnancy success rate in 2020 was 49.2%.

The frozen embryo clinical pregnancy success rate was 26.9% and for embryo donation – 47.4%. Embryos are developed and then transferred into the uterus of the recipient between the 3rd and the 5th day after egg retrieval, following the embryologist’s decision. The average number of embryos transferred in 2020 per embryo transfer was 1.17 so the multiple pregnancy rate in 2020 was 9%.
