Some clinics feel purely medical. Clinica Tambre feels like somewhere designed to look after the whole person.
Tambre has two locations. One in Madrid, and a newer one in Alicante. I visited the Alicante branch, and I’d heard it was beautiful, so I was really looking forward to seeing it for myself.
The clinic sits right by the port. It’s a central spot, but it still gives you plenty of privacy. From the outside, the design honestly takes your breath away.

Clinica Tambre is one of the more established names in Spanish fertility care, with over 45 years of experience in infertility. That’s not a small thing. When you’re choosing a clinic, that depth of experience matters.
They run two clinics. The original in Madrid, and the newer Alicante branch. Wherever you go, the aim is the same: strong medicine, the latest technology, and a treatment plan built around you.
One detail that stood out was their little identity cards. Each card carries your name and pulls up your file whenever it’s scanned. So you don’t have to carry paper documents around with you. It’s a small touch, but it tells you how much thought goes into the patient experience here.
The clinic invests in the latest technologies to fine-tune each treatment. They also lean heavily into personalisation. No two patients get the same copy-paste plan.

Arrival at the clinic
I arrived at 7am for a flight to Alicante, and the journey in was smooth. The driver was lovely, and the clinic was easy to find, right next to the port.
Then you open the door. This is where the design really starts to speak. I was welcomed by a lovely receptionist, and because it was my first visit, we gathered all my information together.
After that, I got to sit in the waiting area, and it’s just beautiful. There’s a little coffee and tea nook. Plants everywhere. Wonderful paintings on the walls. It genuinely doesn’t feel like a fertility clinic or anywhere medical at all. You just sit surrounded by greenery, and it’s calming.
The design ties together through the art, the plants, and even the staircase, which is a real feature of the space.
Medical consultation
Before the medical side, I had my patient coordinator consultation with Natasha. We’d been in touch back and forth before I arrived, so it was lovely to finally meet in person and talk through my case in depth.
She was warm and caring, and she’d be with me the whole way through treatment, every time I visit the clinic. When I asked her when a coordinator stops being just a coordinator and becomes emotional support, her answer was simple. It starts from the very first message and stays with you throughout the entire journey.
She was honest that this is a challenging and emotional road for patients. So the personalised, human support runs through every step. And it doesn’t stop after treatment. Many of her patients still message her afterwards to share their news and send photos of their babies.
Then came my medical consultation with Dr. Abraham Zavala, one of Tambre’s experienced fertility specialists. He has real expertise in multiple implantation failures and more complex cases, including couples who’ve had unsuccessful IVF in the past.
He gave me a detailed explanation of my own health based on my test results, then we moved on to the ultrasound. He was incredibly gentle and talked me through everything we were seeing on screen.
When I asked what he’d want patients to understand before coming to Tambre, he said the most important thing is that there’s hope. Patients are coming to a clinic with over 45 years of experience in infertility. They invest in the latest technology to optimise every individual treatment, and they keep each strategy as personalised as possible. His message was that you’ll always feel like you have someone beside you for the whole journey.
The IVF laboratory
Upstairs you’ll find the treatment rooms and the lab, one of the most important parts of any fertility clinic. You get dressed before going in, and then Victoria, one of the embryologists, showed me around.
The lab is impressive. There are embryoscope incubators with time-lapse technology, which lets the team watch and monitor embryos as they develop without ever disturbing them. They’re also using artificial intelligence to help select the best embryo for transfer. Using the CHLOE AI tool, they’ve seen pregnancy rates increase by 10%. That’s a striking number.
There’s an ICSI rig where they carry out injections and trophectoderm biopsies. Separate hoods handle cryopreservation, embryo thawing, embryo transfer, and egg collections. When you come in, day one is finding the eggs, injecting them, then keeping them in the incubators to check fertilisation the next day.
Everything is carefully looked after. The cryo storage room, where eggs and embryos live once frozen, is monitored 24/7. If any parameter changes, the team is alerted straight away so they can act quickly and keep the embryos safe at all times.
There’s also an andrology lab where all the sperm samples are processed. This is where they run semen analysis, freeze samples for future treatments, and prepare samples on the day of egg collection. They also carry out DNA sperm fragmentation testing, so if a sample has high fragmentation, they can use sperm selection techniques during ICSI to pick the best sperm for the microinjection.
The recovery and treatment area is just as thoughtful. Each patient gets their own private box with a bed, a cabinet, and a toilet. It’s yours for the whole length of your procedure. It’s cosy rather than clinical, more like a warm little room than a hospital ward, so you don’t feel like you’re there for a treatment at all.
The theatre is just steps away. If you’re in for a retrieval, your eggs are passed straight through to the lab. If you’re in for a transfer, a screen lets you watch your embryo as it’s transferred. There’s even a fully equipped room where men leave sperm samples, with a TV, tablet, and headphones, and you can bring your partner in with you.

It was genuinely the most beautiful clinic I have ever seen. But the design is only part of the story.
What struck me most was how they think about patient experience. It isn’t just the consultation or the medical care. It’s everything around it too, from the surroundings to the music to the recovery area. And the recovery area matters more than people realise. That’s where you might feel most vulnerable or stressed, so a space that feels safe and comfortable can really shape the whole experience.
I visited Alicante, but whether you choose Alicante or Madrid, I believe you’ll get a similar experience. The staff are excellent, both the patient coordinators and the medical team.
Dr. Abraham Zavala left a really positive impression on me. He specialises in low ovarian reserve and multiple implantation failures, so he’s a strong option for a broad range of patients. Personality-wise, he puts you at ease. He feels like one of those safe doctors who won’t judge you and won’t push you into anything you don’t want.
